A portion of the John Ellerman Foundation grant was allocated to provide an online educational resource from the Unspoken Project theatre production Speechless. The show was performed at the Communication Matters 2016 Conference.

Speechless The Musical

On 12th Sept 2016 the Unspoken Project CIC brought its debut performance, Speechless, to Communication Matters 30th Anniversary in Leeds. Speechless is a fully integrated disabled and non-disabled mainstream show addressing issues around communication impairment. It is a typical coming of age story of a teenager on the run from her loving but over-bearing parents. They have a limited view of her adulthood, ignore her need for a voice and subject her to highly dubious medical practices that promise a miracle cure.

Speechless was created to raise awareness of other methods of speaking and the use of communication aids, including AAC, and their users in mind. The intention is to open a debate on the subject of communication, its uses and its accessibility to those in need of it.
