Why Research Matters?

Communication Matters is committed to encouraging AAC research.

Research drives progress, solves problems, and expands knowledge, ultimately improving lives and advancing society. It provides a foundation for informed decision-making, technological innovation, and evidence-based solutions.

Who we are

Research Matters evolved from the Communication Matters’ Research Involvement Network, originally launched in 2011. It is a network of people who are interested in research about, for, and with people who use AAC.

What we do

Research Matters aims to connect the AAC community to opportunities to:

Participate in research
Support AAC users in participating and learning about research
Provide advice or guidance to researchers
Recommend new areas for research
Connect with other research projects

    We share information about research to the AAC community, for example via the Communication Matters’ YouTube channel.

  • Listening to Your Voice

    We host 4 online meetings a year for people who want to connect with research in an open and informal forum.

  • Quarterly Newsletters

    We send newsletters and updates on research outcomes and opportunities.

  • AAC Advocacy in Research

    We represent the research interests of the AAC community at national and international research networks.

  • Connecting People

    We connect people with similar interests to advance research in the field of AAC.

  • A short, easy read description of your project (as included in your funding proposal)
  • The type of involvement required: participation, consultation, research subject, co-researcher, steering group member etc
  • Name of the lead research institution
  • Web link for further information
