DoH request for information regarding equipment and services for people with a physical disability in England
From Julie Atkinson, Chair AAC Advisory Group, NHS England:
I have received a request from the Department of Health (see below) regarding equipment and services for children and adults with physical disabilities.
Please can I encourage as many people as possible (patients/service users, NHS / Social Services / Education staff, charities and other interested parties) to take the time to respond to this – with particular regard to local and specialised AAC services / equipment – as well as other services/equipment which people with a physical disability may (or may not!) be able to access.
Rachel Hassey at the Department of Health writes:
“The Department of Health is gathering information about what frame of reference is being used locally to provide services to adults & children with physical disabilities (especially those without continuing care packages) and hope you can help.
– What services are currently being provided locally and why? Namely in relation to Equipment (AAC, EC, wheelchairs, prostheses & orthotics), adaptations & support services (social care & housing – rehabilitation & habilitation)
– How is the local need being determined?
– What frame of reference is being used to determine the service provision?
– What quality framework is being used for this service provision?
– What are the barriers/issues/risks to this service provision?
– Is there a significant transitional difference for the provision of these services for children & adults?
I am more than happy to discuss the above points in person or via phone.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any queries and thank you for your support”
Many thanks
