Summary

Scotland is working towards achieving the vision of becoming a country in which people who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) are included as active members of a society that acknowledges and adapts to their needs. This follows the publication of a Scottish Government strategy called ‘A Right to Speak: Supporting Individuals who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication’ and the commitment of £4 million across 2012–2015 to make it happen. This presentation will explain the development of ‘A Right to Speak’; describe Scotland’s vision for people who use AAC; and explain the role of NES in supporting the implementation of the strategy by providing an overview of the projects being supported by NES.

This session will also provide updates on AAC provision for EnglandNorthern Irelandand Wales.
