SCTCI is one team, offering two services; the SCTCI Service and the CHAT Service:
SCTCI Service
Area covered
Scotland
Population served
All ages (children and adults), anyone with a communication impairment.
Scale
Approximately 150 assessments per year.
Services provided
SCTCI Service – We offer a national, specialist AAC assessment service to both adults and children who have a communication impairment, covering 12 out of 14 health boards in Scotland. We offer training and technical support for the AAC team. We also write and deliver the AAC module at the University of Strathclyde.

Referral process
Via our referral form. The majority of referrals come from local Speech and Language Therapy services. We aim to initiate all assessments within 12 weeks of receipt of the referral form. We operate a prioritisation system for the most urgent referrals.
CHAT Service
Area covered
Greater Glasgow and Clyde
Population served
All ages for Implementation Support. Adults only for Equipment Provision.
Scale
Approximately 50 funding applications and 20 referrals for support per year.
Services provided
CHAT Service – This service is to support the implementation of the AAC-related legislation throughout Glasgow. We support the implementation of AAC and manage and arrange the provision of equipment for adults in Glasgow. We also have a loan bank of equipment accessible to SLTs across Scotland to assist with their own AAC assessment.
