AAC is usually well established in familiar environments. The system has been developed to be used in these settings ad the support network around each individual is aware of the system and strategies to support this.
But what happens when an individual who uses AAC moves out of their familiar home, school, or care environments? Transitions into new schools and adult services are well recognised, but not all transitions are predictable.
This session will look at the issues arising when people move out of their usual world and into alien situations. We will discuss information sharing with these new populations, preparing suitable vocabulary, and adapting a system to a new world.
