Service Delivery: Perspectives of a speech & language therapist and a client

  • Linda Page
  • Barry Smith

NHS Ayrshire and Arran has developed its service to people who use AAC over the last 20 years. Services are tailored to meet the individual’s needs, and the initial support and training when the individual receives their communication aid is of high quality. Ongoing support is also available, as people who use AAC require more than an initial ‘episode of treatment’ to maximise their long term use of  their device.

Barry, who uses a Lightwriter SL40, will contribute a personal perspective to service delivery, by discussing his experiences of using a Lightwriter through challenges and transitions.

The presentation will also discuss the challenges ahead, as we continue to aim for service improvement for people who require access to AAC, against the backdrop of the current financial challenges.
