2. Literacy Lessons – Online Training

The Literacy Lessons are a collaboration between ATtraining and Tina Voizey, providing an online learning opportunity for professionals and parents supporting learners with complex needs on their literacy journey. The series of six sessions will deliver a multidisciplinary view at approaching, creating, and implementing comprehensive literacy strategies regardless of which role you play. We will explore the “what, why and how” with each hour-long session focusing on:

  • Assessment 11th May
  • Reading 25th May
  • Spelling and Phonics 8th June
  • Writing 22nd June
  • Comprehension 21st Sept
  • Summary and Resources 5th Oct

4. MSc in Educational Assistive Technology Virtual Open Afternoon

Virtual Open Afternoon
Tuesday 27th April 2021, 15:00-17:00.

We would like to invite you to our virtual Open Afternoon to find out more about this new MSc in EduAT. Please register via the Educational Assistive Technology MSc open afternoon webpage.

The session will include:

  • An overview of the programme, including a summary of the core modules.
  • Information on who the programme is for and how it is taught.
  • An overview of the User Centre, which is a unique feature at the University. The User Centre provides a space for users of assistive technology to meet in mutually supportive groups to work on training, research and supporting teaching.
  • There will be an opportunity to ask questions of the programme team, and where available current MSc EduAT students.

The MSc in EduAT is available part-time and full-time. We are training individuals to assess for, implement and support the use of technology within education to enable students with a broad range of learning difficulties and/or physical disabilities access the curriculum.

5. NEW CM2021 International AAC Conference – Call for Papers – 1 Week Extension!

You are invited to contribute to the Communication Matters 2021 International AAC Conference.

The CM2021 conference will take place virtually from Monday 13th – Friday 17th September 2021.

We are still accepting abstracts in the usual way and would be delighted to receive them!

We have based our topic areas on the three aspects of evidence-based practice:

  • Best Research Evidence
  • Clinical and Professional Experience
  • Personal Stories and Preferences

Again, this year we will be using an online submission programme called Aventri. You will be asked to login and submit a simple form with a title and a short summary about your talk (maximum 300 words).

Papers can be submitted as either a platform presentation (30 minutes), a poster, or a shorter Lightning Talk (6.25 minutes). We particularly welcome contributions from AAC users and family members. We would also be interested to hear your experiences of telehealth this year. We are really pleased to see all the abstracts coming in so far, but we would also love to see some more abstracts from: 1. Professionals who are working with adult clients and 2. Teachers or those working within a school curriculum. If this is you, please have a look at the link below!

The deadline for submissions has been extended by one week to 30th April 2021. Please get your abstracts in ASAP and to anyone who has started a submission, please ensure it is completed by this date.

Wanted: Recently Published Books

Are you the author of a recently published (or about to be published) book that addresses any aspect of AAC, either fiction or non-fiction?
