There are many situations where people have difficulty communicating, but do not have an established alternative communication system. For example in acute medical situations where the patient either is unable to speak, does not understand or has difficulty giving essential information. A person arriving in prison, probably afraid, with poor reading or with no English, needs to understand the schedules and rules they have to live under.
In this session, Widgit will describe some of the more interesting projects and show the new symbols developed for specific situations. Included in this is a substantial set of symbols developed in collaboration with Warwick NHS Trust for all of their procedures. Other projects involve prison and immigration work.
