To give "food for thought" to people who use AAC and their supporters, about following the route of self employment as a work option. To share my personal experiences of working over the last eight years. I need to share this information, so that other people who use AAC can follow my road with their eyes wide open.
I set up my business in 2004, and am still trading, giving inclusive dance workshops, performances and also some disability issues work. My business has developed to include accessible music making, with inclusive dance, and also Light Painting with dance. My presentation will be by narration, using my AAC, showing Powerpoint and short video clips, to illustrate my story.
I am still self employed, BUT its very hard work and not to be taken on lightly without as much information as possible. There are huge rewards involved, and also great sacrifices to be made, which I was not fully aware of at the start.
I would like my story to be heard by policy makers, and government. Political decisions have a great effect on business. I want barriers to employment removed to enable disabled people to work.
