Summary

In April 2012, the Department for Education awarded a Grant for a Project looking at AAC Services throughout England. The aim of the project was to assist in the transition to new commissioning arrangements, and towards the hub and spoke model of service delivery. A concerted approach was adopted by each Region, all agreeing to work on the same Objectives, ensuring integration and equity of provision.

This presentation will be given by the Consortium Leads for each Region:

  • North Region – Anna is Manager of the ACE Centre, and has also been working on a part time basis on behalf of the DfE in the role of AAC Coordinator (E: areeves@ace-north.org.uk)
  • Midlands & East Midlands – Clive Thursfield is a Consultant Clinical Scientist and Lead Clinician for Access to Communication and Technology, a regionally funded service for the West Midlands (E: clive.thursfield@bhamcommunity.nhs.uk)
  • London – Gary Derwent is an Occupational Therapist and Joint Head of Compass, the Assistive and Rehabilitation Technology Service at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (E: gderwent@rhn.org.uk)
  • South – Judith De Ste Croix and Sally Chan are the Lead Clinical Managers in the Bristol (Frenchay) Communication Aids Centre (E: judith.destecroix@nbt.nhs.uk | sally.chan@nbt.nhs.uk)
