Summary

This session will describe a current AAC research project which explores users’, carers’ and professionals’ perceptions of communication aid design and which aims to identify areas for improvement, future research and development in the design of communication aids.

It describes the two stages of the project to date: a series of face to face interviews with communication aid users in South Yorkshire, and a national questionnaire which has been open to users of aided communication, their carers, and professionals working with users of aided communication.

The session will be participatory in nature, offering an opportunity for participants to share their own views on issues of device design, which will be included in the final research report.
