Summary

As a parent of a child with severe autism, non-verbal for 10 years, and with over 20 years experience in electronics and software, I created a highly functional and innovative electronic speech communication and educational learning device that could support the needs not only of my son but also many other similarly affected children/adults and their families.

After researching the AAC technologies marketplace we identified, designed and continue to develop our speaks4me product range.  It uses a ‘virtual’ personalised picture symbol image exchange approach to facilitate speaking and learning through pictures based on ‘drag-and-drop’ actions with a variety of supported input methods: mouse, touchscreen, eye-gaze, and more.

The simple methodology enables the speaks4me user to create single word or multi-phrase sentences to engage with family, friends, teachers, carers, etc.
