Symbolising the Environment: A whole school approach
Session 1.3
Location: Room 3 (John Foster) Date: 27th Monday 2010 Time: 10:15 - 11:15Summary
This presentation describes how one Scottish Local Authority has taken symbol use to a whole new level by taking symbols out of special education and into the mainstream sector. The Project, led by the Fife Assessment Centre for Communication Technology (FACCT), was designed to provide an inclusive approach to support children's learning rather than working with children in isolation. A comprehensive implementation programme has been designed to create a supportive environment across the region from Preschool to Secondary School.
This presentation will share the successes and challenges of a 'whole school approach' in an effort to provide participants with a potential template on how to implement it in their own settings. Resource examples and video evidence will be included in the presentation.
