Sitting GCSEs: A personal perspective

Session

Personal experience

Summary

Sitting GCSEs is seen as normal for all teenagers but for many people who use AAC, like me, this is a challenging time. This session is about my personal experience. I was at mainstream school until I was 13 where they predicted I would be lucky to get low grades at GCSE. I’ve been at special school now for 4 years and my personalised curriculum includes GCSEs in English Language, English Literature, Science, Maths, Humanities and Design Technology. In addition I am doing an OCR level 2 in IT and the ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness Gold Award (equal to AS level).

I will talk about the classroom support, the lessons, revision and the exams and why the teachers chose these particular exam boards. Also the extra help and adjustments that have helped me to date. The workshop will end with a question and answer session.
