Summary

This presentation will provide strategies to promote language, communication, and early literacy skills of young children with complex communication needs. Participants will learn ways to increase student participation in class using core vocabulary without adding content vocabulary to a device. Stages of language development will be discussed from using one word at a time to expanding sentences using grammar rules.

A variety of free teaching materials and resources addressing these stages will be shared. Session content will focus on high-tech communication systems, however strategies may be applied to low-tech aids.
