Summary

The author will demonstrate a new, single word vocabulary for users of The Grid 2. Development of Beeline came about from a sense that none of the currently available vocabularies made full and efficient use of The Grid 2’s programming features. Consideration was given to the principles of consistency, predictability, automaticity and minimum keystrokes to access a large vocabulary – key factors that promote independent communication.

Beeline is a symbol-based vocabulary designed for a user with relatively good language skills who is not necessarily literate but has the potential to express their own ideas in novel sentences. This session will introduce the key features of the vocabulary and explore how Beeline reduces the physical effort and learning load for the user and their support team.
