AAC Role Models in Schools

Session

Summary

Communicaton and Learning Enterpises (CandLE) have been collaborating with members of 1Voice and Katie Caryer to develop the way in which adult role models who use AAC can support younger AAC users in school. The need for role models is particulary important for those students who are included in mainstream schools and who might not otherwise have support and encouragement from older people who use AAC. A role description has been drafted and is in the process of being tested and refined.

This session will explain the work of role models, describe recent role model experiences in mainstream schools, and seek ideas from AAC users, families and professionals on the development of role models.
