1. Ace Centre AAC Consultant Vacancies

Ace Centre is a national charity offering a range of Assistive Technology (AT) and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) services for people with physical and communication impairments and those who support them.

The Ace Centre operates from 2 regional offices, one in Oldham - Greater Manchester (North) and one in Oxfordshire – Abingdon (South). We are looking to appoint qualified occupational therapists / qualified speech and language therapists / education professionals in our Oxfordshire office to join the team and contribute to the delivery of assessments, training and advice and information services across the South of England.

This is a great opportunity to join a small and friendly multi-disciplinary team offering excellent CPD opportunities. These roles would suit enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals with an interest in or preferably experience of working with AT and AAC and experience of working with people with a range of disabilities.

3. Training event for Rehadapt mounting system - please register interest!

From Gary Scarlett, MERU:

I am looking to put on a training event for the Rehadapt mounting system at the end of October and would like to see how many people would like to come. There will be Rehadapt equipment to see and use and Stefan Franke from REHAdapt to assist in the training.

The event would cover mounting on different types of wheelchairs (a practical / hands on session) floor stands and desk mounts.

The event will be for one day and held at the mobility centre in Carshalton 1 Metcalfe Ave, Carshalton SM5 4AN.

This event will be free of charge.

4. ACT Birmingham has Job Vacancies

Access to Communication and Technology (ACT) is one of the national hubs providing specialist assessment and provision for people who may require specialist Alternative & Augmentative Communication (AAC), and people with severe physical disabilities who may need Environmental Control (EC) or computer access. We are based at the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre, Selly Oak, Birmingham B29 6JA.

The posts vacant are:

Band 7 - Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist

This post holder will use highly developed Occupational Therapy skills alongside Speech and Language Therapy and Clinical Science staff within the interdisciplinary team - assessing people referred to the service and making recommendations to meet their AAC and/or EC needs.

They will need to have significant experience post qualification, in one of the following areas:

- Neurology
- Paediatrics
- Learning disability

Previous experience of working with Electronic Assistive Technology is preferable but not essential.

Band 4 - Electronic Assistive Technology Rehabilitation Assistant

The post holder will support therapists to provide assistive technologies to clients who have a range of conditions, which include complex physical and/or learning disabilities, and life limiting diagnoses.

The Rehab assistant will have excellent computer skills and an interest in technology. The role will involve preparing electronic assistive technology and low tech resources as well as directly providing them to the clients.

10. Office Closure Following Conference

Please note that there will be no Friday Announcements on Friday 15th & Friday 22nd September due to the office closure following the conference. If you would like to send something in, please do so for the 29th September instead.
