Facilitating Success in the Classroom for People who use AAC and all School Staff

Summary

For one day a week during the past 12 months I have been seconded to DynaVox Systems Ltd to act as a facilitation advisor for schools in the North East of England.

I have been able to identify various issues that have reduced the value and use of high-tech AAC devices and caused frustration for users and staff. I have been able to provide some support and guidance for how the current situations could be addressed.

This session will provide an overview of the issues, how they were addressed, and provide participants with ideas and strategies of how better facilitation could be achieved by working as a multi-disciplinary team and the benefits that could be possible if LEAs and schools took over the responsibility of employing their own facilitation advisors.
