Responding to client requests in 2002 we developed a speech enhancement system, the EchoVoice EV4, which is versatile enough to be used in a growing number of situations without being overly complicated. The functionality created was as a result of close consultation with therapists and end-users primarily in the UK and Finland. EchoVoice EV4 is supplied in a smart carry case containing:
- amplifier with four AA rechargeable batteries
- transdermal (throat) microphone
- lanyard
- headband type boom microphone
- stereo headset
- patch lead for line input
- power adaptor for recharging
The very comfortable transdermal microphone can be used by people with Parkinson's Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, cerebral palsy, etc. as well as in situations where the headband microphone is perceived to restrict freedom of movement.
Used in conjunction with the headset and transdermal microphone, the EV4 has been found to be particularly effective in the retraining of individuals with swallowing difficulties.
Line input allows the user to listen to audio signals (with amplification) through the speaker or headphones. This is of great use for auditory training as the user is able to repeat or comment on what he or she is listening to via the boom or transdermal microphone (patch lead supplied).
When the headphone socket is used the speaker is cut off thus allowing private conversation, either via the headphones supplied or by the use of a neckloop and hearing aid in the 'T' setting for hearing impaired people.
