New Developments in Talking Mats: Digital Talking Mat, bespoke visual images, children and young people

Session
3.4
Exhibitor/Supplier

  • Sally Boa (Talking Mats Ltd)
Summary

This session presents new developments in 2013 for Talking Mats:

  • The development of bespoke visual images: a three-way partnership between a leading comic artist, speech and language therapists, and people with communication disability. The images take account of language and conceptual issues.
  • The Digital Talking Mat: this is a resource which will work on iPad, tablet or computer. The selection of topics is based on the World Health Organisation International Classification of Function Disability and Health (WHO-ICF). This provides a comprehensive and engaging framework to explore key life issues with individuals and supports involvement in all aspects of life planning.
  • Specific resources for children and young people to support GIRFFEC based on WHO ICF-CY.

The session will explore potential uses and advantages of these developments and describe how they fit into the existing range of Talking Mats resources, training, consultancy and research.
