Summary

This paper will report the findings from the Communication Matters 'Outcome Measures' working group.

Method/Activities/Techniques

A list of outcome measures was compiled by working group members. A review of the literature identified the aims and goals of people using AAC. Each measure has been considered within that context; their strengths and weaknesses have been made explicit.

Results/Findings

A resource addressing commonly asked questions (e.g. difference between assessment and the outcome measure; psychometric properties; needs of clients services and commissioners) has been compiled by the working group.

Conclusions

The needs of people using AAC, services and commissioners, along with the goals of AAC intervention, need to be considered when choosing an outcome measure.
